FTC® is for students in grades 9-12 (15 to 18), who prefer a more head-to-head competition, much like that in sports. They have alliances of teams each composed of up to 10 students who design, build, and program their robots to compete against other alliances. Year-to-year the kit is reusable and can be programmed using many different coding languages. The students, coaches, mentors, and volunteers work together to create a strategy and build a robot that utilizes sound engineering principles. At competitions, awards are given for competition performance, community outreach, design, and other real-world accomplishments.
